Young Farmers receive national recognition

Last month, the Blount County Young Farmers attended the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) Annual Convention in San Diego to present information on their ‘Farm Safety Day and Row Crop Tour’ which was selected as a County Activity of Excellence (CAE) for 2014. Only 24 of the top county Farm Bureau programs are awarded with the honor. The training day occurs every two years, during which hundreds of first responders from Blount and surrounding counties attend training on emergency situations involving farm equipment.‘ It’s an honor to represent our county and our state by receiving the CAE award,’ Blount County Farms chairman Chris Holaway told alfafarmers.org.‘It shows all the hard work and effort that went into this event, especially the work behind the scenes that people may not know about. Our farm safety event is so important, anything we can do to promote safety on the farm is worth doing.’
