According to a press release from the Blount County District Attorney’s Office, Samantha Wright, 23, and Shannon Yager, 44, have been sentenced to serve 35 years in the custody of the Alabama Department of Corrections upon pleading guilty to the murder of Alexis Garcia.
Garcia, who was 17 at the time of her disappearance, was last seen in public with Wright at Walmart around midnight on March 1, 2015. Her body was discovered 17 days later near Tucker Mountain Road in Remlap. Court records revealed Garcia died of asphyxia due to strangulation.
District Attorney Pamela Casey said, “Alexis was such a beautiful young lady. It was beyond tragic for her life to be taken from her so violently and at such a young age. The criminal justice system cannot bring Alexis back to her family. But, I hope her family can find some peace knowing that Samantha Wright and Shannon Yager will be held accountable for Alexis’s death.”
Jury selection for this case was set to begin on Feb.6.The case was investigated by the Blount County Sheriff’s Office and Casey commended the work of investigators Jeff Kirkland, Scott Kanaday, and Fred Cochran.
