Let me start by saying that I am in no way a Broadway critic. But I love the arts and live theater. On Friday night, I went to see the production of The Miracle Worker by William Gibson that the Covered Bridge Players are currently showing at their new location on Ala 231 South.
The cast and the production crew were absolutely FANTASTIC! The Miracle Worker tells the story of Helen Keller and her struggles to overcome obstacles that her deafness and blindness cause her. Carron Clem was absolutely superb as Annie Sullivan, the teacher who finally reached into Helen Keller’s darkness, and Bethany Hogeland is chilling as the young Helen. Jordan Fore, a local high school student in Blount County, who plays Helen’s mother, has an exciting future in theater should she choose that path. Every one in the cast rocked the house!
Last fall, I had the pleasure of seeing Steel Magnolias on the Covered Bridge Players’ stage as well. It, too, was excellent. I am very impressed with the work that the Covered Bridge Players have done in such a short amount of time. I encourage every Blount Countian to see one of their productions and support their efforts to bring the arts to Blount County. You, too, will walk away saying “Wow!” Pamela L. Casey District Attorney
