A day trip to Rickwood Caverns in Warrior is always a fun adventure, but from now until Wednesday, Dec. 30, the cave has been transformed into Wonderland Under Warrior, a magical experience where you will be mesmerized by laser lights, a Rockin’ Christmas Room, Rick Whoville, Lover’s Leap, a waterfall of lights, a snowy room, and an elf workshop.
Before taking the country farm trail to enter the cave, visitors will notice more outside décor than in years past. Once inside, visitors will continue through the cave at their own pace, usually taking between 30 and 45 minutes to complete the tour. Guides are strategically placed inside the cave to assist as needed.
In an effort to adhere to social distancing, Rickwood Caverns is taking same day reservations to limit the amount of people inside the cave at one time. Masks are required while inside the cave. Sadly, there will not be a Santa Claus on site this year, and while this may disappoint some, the staff is just glad that they are able to offer this holiday experience.
The cave hovers around 62 degrees all year long, even on cold days. Also, to make the walk easier for anyone with mobility issues, the 110 steps at the end of the tour will not be included. The tour consists of about 30 steps and a mile walk in the cave.
Cave tours are $10 per person for those ages 5 and up. If you are interested in securing a guaranteed time slot, Rickwood Caverns opens at noon each day of operation for reservations. Simply call 205-647-9692 to make a reservation. There is no guarantee, but walk-ins will be accepted when slot times are available.
Tours begin at 2 p.m. and run through 8 p.m. with 7:25 p.m. being the last slot for people to enter that night. The tours will operate on Nov. 25, Nov. 27 to Nov. 29, Dec. 2 to Dec. 6, Dec. 9 to Dec. 13, Dec. 16 to Dec. 23, and Dec. 26 to Dec. 30.
