Woman shot in Blountsville

Melissa Glass, 32, daughter-in-law of Blountsville town councilman Michael Glass, sustained a gunshot wound to the hand last Friday afternoon in Blountsville, according to sources at Blountsville Town Hall. The wound was non-life threatening, and she was taken to the hospital in Cullman for treatment, according to sheriff’s department investigator Steve Fowler.

Sheriff’s department spokesman Terry Sherbert said the incident began with a 911 call that a burglary was in progress at the residence on Page Street. When police arrived, a white male suspect had left the scene. A search was conducted, but the suspect was not found. A white male meeting the suspect’s general description was picked up at the Dollar General store north of town. He was detained briefly, questioned, then released without charge, Sherbert said. The suspect’s name was not released.

The incident occurred about 1:00 p.m, and Blountsville schools were locked down as a precautionary measure during the period of the search, he said.

At the request of the Blountsville Police Department, the Blount County Sheriff’s Department has taken over the ongoing investigation, Sherbert said.
