Crystal Marie Huie, 33, was discovered dead in her home Friday on Dunhill Road in Blountsville. Investigator Pat Thomas of the Blount County Sheriff’s Department said she had been beaten to death. Time of death was estimated at 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday morning, he said.
Relatives of the slain woman had tried to phone her that morning and when they got no answer went to her house later in the day to check on her. They found her at that time, then called 911 to report the death.
Coroner John Mark Vaughn said the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, and said there were indications that a violent skirmish had occurred in several rooms of the house before culminating in the bedroom. An autopsy has been ordered.
Thomas said Donnie Wayne Brown, a friend of the dead woman, had been sought as a person of interest in the investigation. Brown turned himself in Monday night, Thomas said, but he has not as yet been formally charged with a crime.“He’s in jail right now, and we’ve got 48 hours to charge him. He may be charged by tomorrow.”
