Winter shuts down Blount County

Just two weeks after a white Christmas, Blount County received another jolt of winter as an arctic front and tropical moisture combined to bury the county under ice and snow. Snow began Sunday afternoon in parts of the county and by nightfall the majority of the county was experiencing travel problems. More snow fell on Monday and the cold temperatures remained as work and school schedules were disrupted through middle of the week. The cold weather will continue into the weekend but travel has slowly improved during the week. Blount County EMA director Max Armstrong has remained at his post in the courthouse since the event began on Sunday – he will, no doubt, welcome warmer temperatures. -Rob Rice
