The Hayden Wildcats hosted the Corner Yellow Jackets in a Class 5A Region 6 matchup last Friday. While the Wildcats out gained Corner 361 yards to 324, they couldn’t overcome three turnovers. The Wildcats came up on the short end of a 48-20 score.
The Jackets held a 7-0 lead after one quarter on a defensive score. Corner scored four touchdowns in the second quarter, while the Wildcats scored twice, first on a 3-yard run by Ashton Hicks. Hicks added another 21-yard run for his second TD of the night. Hicks also added a run for the two-point conversion. The Jackets took a 33-14 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Midway through the third quarter, Taylor McAdams scored from 28 yards to make it 20-33. Corner added two scores in the second half to cushion the margin of victory to 48-20.
Will Vines was 8-of-16 passing for 110 yards and one interception. The leading rushers for the Wildcats were Hicks who had 126 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns, McAdams with 80 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown, and Eli Smith who accounted for 29 yards on nine attempts. Kyler Leamon led all receivers with three catches for 38 yards while Nathan Wheeler had a single catch for 27 yards. Brodie Garner had two catches for 20, Keegan Motte had one for 16, and Sam Allen had one for 9 yards.
Leading Hayden’s defense was McAdams who had seven tackles. Motte, Garner and Wheeler all accounted for five tackles each while Evan Phillips and Mason Mullaney both had four.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 0-4, 0-2 on the season. Hayden will travel to Leeds to take on the 5A No. 10 Green Wave this Friday. Leeds comes into the game 4-0, 2-0 defeating Moody 33-19 last Friday.
