Gary Whited was recently honored for 40 years’ service as councilman for Rosa. From left: District 11 Rep. Randall Shedd, Probate Judge Chris Green, Whited, wife Dale Whited, and daughters Natalie Whited, Cindy Adcock, and Sonya Bookout. Besides the plaque he is holding, Whited received congratulatory certificates from Gov. Robert Bentley, Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey, and Rep. Shedd. Whited’s tenure dates to the days before the Rosa Town Hall, but not before the Rosa town government.‘The council met in people’s houses in the mid-70s, then later on in the basement of the Methodist church. So getting the town hall and fire station built was a big event,’ he said. Major subsequent events include getting the grant to provide community water, and contracting with the Blount County Commission to handle road maintenance for the town. Whited retired from the Rosa Town Council about the first of this year, he said, when he moved from Rosa to Oneonta.
