Weldon Hoyt Hathorn

WELDON HOYT HATHORN, 83, passed away Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at UAB Medical Center. He graduated from Susan Moore High School where he participated in FFA and developed a lifelong love of agriculture. He married Annese Sloman Aug. 17, 1961, and served his country as a Marksman, 1st Class Gunner in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1961- 1967. He received his BA and MA in Business from JSU and later worked as a millwright for Republic Steel. Weldon was a lifelong gardening enthusiast with a green thumb like no other who partook in many interests including beekeeping, mechanics, camping, and travel. He visited 49 of the 50 states and most of the Canadian provinces; he traveled to Ireland where he participated in archaeological excavations and toured other European countries with friends from the Tallassee Senior Center.

He is survived by his daughter Stacye Hathorn; granddaughters Charlcie Hathorn and Jean Leah Atkins; and his brothers Wayne Hathorn (Elsie), Al Hathorn (Pat), and Wendell Hathorn (Kathy).

His funeral service was private due to spiking Delta cases. There will be a larger memorial event at a later date to be determined post-COVID. The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful help and care given by UAB Medical Center staff.
