Welding open house rescheduled at Career Tech Center

The open house and welding competition originally scheduled for Nov. 22 and suspended because of inclement weather will be held this Friday, Dec. 2, at the Career Tech Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. As originally planned, the event will feature a welding competition among the 55 students of the program. Refreshments including hot dogs and beverages will be served, and community visitors and prospective students will get an orientation to facilities and equipment. Instructor Randy Hammond repeats his invitation to members of local industry who hire welders to come and see students demonstrate their skills. Hammond also invites 10th-graders who will qualify to enter the program next year to come – along with their parents – to check out the program. In the evening’s competition, 10 students will be chosen, based on proficiency, to be on the center’s welding team. Welding-related prizes will be given to the top three finishers among first-year and second-year students. – Ron Gholson
