Weekend shooting leaves one man dead in Cleveland

The Blount County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate a weekend shooting that left one man dead.

Deputies were called to a residence on Tuscaloosa Pike in Cleveland early Saturday morning after a call to 911 reported a shooting.

At the residence, 50-year-old Abraham Castillo Chevez was found dead of a single gunshot wound after what authorities determined as a domestic incident that escalated.

The alleged shooter, the victim’s 28-year-old nephew, was taken into custody a short time later after a traffic stop on Ala 79 in the Dallas- Selfville community.

The suspect has been charged with murder and is being held without bond in the Blount County Jail.
