After not winning a game last season, the Lighthouse Warriors came out of the gate strong with a 48-14 victory over Tuscaloosa Christian this past Friday, Aug. 9.
The Warriors’ quarterback, Preston Graham, threw for 359 yards and five touchdowns in the first half alone, not throwing a single pass in the second half of the ball game. Josiah Mitchell had three receptions for three touchdowns and 161 yards. Issac Aycock and Jackson Smith each had a receiving touchdown as well. Smith also carried the ball nine times for 76 yards and a touchdown, bringing the Warriors’ total offensive yards to 429.
Defensively, the Warriors looked solid. Josiah Mitchell recorded 12 tackles and an interception, Liam McDonald had two sacks and a forced fumble, Jackson Smith and Joe White recorded a sack each, and Johnny Hirsh, Brody Pounders, and Isaac Aycock all recorded five tackles each.
On special teams, the Warriors were able to recover two fumbled kickoffs by Lighthouse kicker Quan Ferrel that led to points for the Warriors. Isaac Aycock also returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown.
The Warriors put on a great show, scoring 34 of their 48 points in the first half, a promising start to a new season coming off a disappointing 0-8 run last year. The Warriors look to continue their momentum and carry it over into this Friday, Aug. 16, where they will face New Life Christian.
