WALTON PANNELL, 88, Columbus, Miss., died March 19, 2015, at the residence. Mr. Pannell was born in Oneonta and was the owner of Columbus Tomato Company for 50 years. Predeceasing him were parents Rufus and Etta Parish Pannell and son Larry E. Pannell.
Surviving are wife of 71 years Eloise Hill Pannell; sons Jimmy (Nina) Pannell, Lymon Pannell; daughters Carolyn Vandiver, Janet Usher, all of Columbus; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother Denton Pannell, Oneonta.
Paul Rivers officiated the 1 p.m. service held March 23 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at Friendship Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Walt Pannell, Jacob Pannell, Blake Brown, Greg Hill, Bobby Hill, Dustin David, Keith Bain, and Jim Allen. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Gann, Robert Smith, John Allred, Everett Tidwell, Buddy Easley, Bill Canon, Bobby Gale, Jimmy Wilder,“Hoot” West, Jim Hoops, Herbert Eads, Gene Reed, Jimmy Busby, Jess Prescott, Mike Perkerson, Steve Andrews, Ed Prescott, Joe Ross, Butch Howard, Jeff Hoops, and Dan Taylor.
