Wallace State students receive awards

Students at Wallace State Community College were recognized for their achievements at the college’s recent Honors Night Ceremony, held on the campus in Hanceville.

The night’s top honor, the President’s Cup, went to Chad Fines, Hayden, a medical assisting student. This award is presented to the student who most completely demonstrates academic excellence, service to the college and community, leadership, courage, perseverance, and all those qualities that make a student well-rounded. Fines nearly died when his heart stopped in high school, and as a result had a pacemaker implanted. No longer able to compete in his favorite sport, football, he transferred his passion to the medical field. His instructors at Wallace State and at clinical sites praise his work ethic, rapport with patients, and academic performance. He will graduate from the program this month and plans to work in a cardiology office.
