Victory comes back to knock off Appalachian


The Appalachian Eagles built a big lead but couldn’t hang on as Victory Christian’s second-half offensive explosion led the visitors to a 49-35 victory.

Appalachian put together more than 400 yards of offense on the night – 224 on the ground; 191 through the air.

Jasper Hutchens completed 10 of 18 passing for 191 yards and two touchdowns and also led the Eagles on the ground with 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just 11 carries.

Devin Payne added 16 carries for 70 yards while Noah Harris chipped in with 33 yards and a touchdown on just four attempts.

Peyton Dean led the Eagle receivers with six catches for 131 yards and a touchdown, while Harris caught three balls for 42 yards and a score.

Zach Walling led the Eagle defense with eight tackles, followed by Chase Roberts with seven and Isaac Duarte with six. Johnathan Garcia and Daniel Alarcon had five tackles each.

Appalachian dropped to 1-3 overall, 0-2 in 1A Region 4. The Eagles will travel to Winterboro (2-1, 1- 0) this Friday.
