Vaughn earns medical investigator certification

John Mark Vaughn, Blount County coroner, has earned the certified medical investigator (CMI III) designation, the concluding certification, from the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute and the American Board of Forensic Medicine.

Forensic science is the application of science to matters of law. Medical investigators use forensic techniques to conduct medical investigations. The CMI program covers subjects such as conducting medical investigations, gathering evidence while protecting the scene, interpreting case law, writing accurate reports, providing testimony in court, and related matters.

Vaughn was re-elected without opposition in November to serve his second term as Blount County coroner.
