Update on November shootings

Three shootings occurred in Blount County during the month of November, and each of them is still under investigation.

Martin Road shooting

The State Bureau of Investigations is still looking into a deputy-involved shooting that occurred on Martin Road in Blountsville. During the morning hours of Nov. 3, 24- year-old Caleb Joseph Ryan was shot to death by a Blount County Sheriff’s deputy. The investigation was turned over to the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI), and is still ongoing, according to Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington.

The deputy was also injured in the incident but has since made a full recovery, according to Arrington. The deputy remains on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.

Clint Myrick shooting

The investigation is still ongoing involving last month’s shooting of Clint Myrick, according to Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday, and no grand jury date had been announced.

On Nov. 20, Myrick, 28, was killed by a shotgun blast at a residence on Kelsoe Road. Sources say Myrick, allegedly armed with a baseball bat, was shot by his girlfriend after she fired a warning shot. The Blount County Sheriff’s Department received a call at approximately 1:30 a.m., of a burglary in progress at the residence. The girlfriend told the officers she had recently kicked him out of the house.

Remlap shooting

Dustin Hackney, 24, has been charged with attempted murder after a shooting on Nov. 29 left one person injured, Casey said.

Hackney posted bond and was released from the Blount County Jail, according to authorities. He is scheduled to appear in court in the coming weeks.
