Undefeated!







Oneonta senior distance runner Alex Gilliland shows off the four medals he won last week at the Alabama High School 4A State Track Meet at Gulf Shores, Gilliland, who has signed with UAH, finished his senior year undefeated and set state records in the 1600 (4:20.44 breaking his own record of 4:27.74 set last year) and 3200 (9:49.91 breaking his own record of 9:51.91 set last year). He also won the 800 with a time of 1:57.52, just .2 seconds off the state record, and helped the Oneonta 4-x- 400 relay team to a first-place finish (running with Terrell McDaniel, Alvin Scott, and Jalen Johnson). In his career, Alex won three state titles in the 1600 and 3200, two in the 800, and one in the 4-x-400 relay. He also won state cross country titles as a sophomore and junior. UMS-Wright won the state title with 102 points and Oneonta was second with 90 points. – Rob Rice
