A State Trooper working a construction site on I-59 in Etoway County spotted a woman running in traffic. He lost sight of her but was alerted by motorists after a pickup truck sideswiped a another vehicle and then fled.
The pursuit continued for 10 miles south on the interstate and ended near the Ashville exit where spike strips were deployed and the truck was halted.
One of the men in the truck told authorities about the murder and the Blount County Sheriff’s Department and Blountsville Police Department were notified.
The body of Beavers was discovered later and he is thought to have died from blunt force injuries to the head.
The two were in Beavers’s truck and had his debit card with them when they were arrested.
MacNeill is charged with capital murder-robbery and capital murder-burglary. Ridge-way is charged with capital murder-burglary.
The woman who was running in traffic was later taken into custody but she was not charged and has been released.
Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey thanked the Alabama State Troopers, Blount County Sheriff’s Department, and Blountsville Police Department for their efforts on the case.
