Town to have angel tree, Christmas parade

The Blountsville Town Council met last week. Mayor Danny Baker announced that Town Hall will have an Angel Tree. Those interested in helping can stop by during the first week of December to pick an angel. He also announced that the town would once again hold a drive-through Christmas Parade Saturday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. More details can be found on the town’s Facebook page.

In other business, the council approved:

• $3,580 yearly maintenance and service renewal of the town’s cameras, phone systems, and alarms.

• $3,200 estimate from Stream- South Communications for upgrades to phone system and server for Town Hall, police department, and fire department.

• application to rezone lots 69225, 69243, and 69254 from R1 to B2, and to hold a public hearing Monday, Dec. 6.

• hiring additional full-time employee for street department.

• renewal of $100,000 draw line at HomeTown Bank and Peoples Bank.

• renewal of contract with Blount County 911 dispatch services for $18,197.80.

• purchase of up to $500 for costumes to be used by the town for special events.

The next town council meeting is scheduled Monday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m.
