‘Touch a Truck’ day at Oneonta Public Library

To kick off its summer reading program this year, Oneonta Public Library staged a special day last week to appeal directly to childrens’ imaginations and to lure them to the library’s environs. Strewn across the library parking lot in a heavy-duty receiving line were seven major trucks: an Oneonta Fire Department pumper truck, a bobcat, a front-end loader, a road grader, a tri-axle dump truck, a bucket truck, and an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Most of the vehicles were provided by the City of Oneonta and Blount County Commission, District 3. Blount County Tractor loaned the ATV.

The library summer reading program features activities for children, teenagers, and adults. An innovative feature provides for sponsored contributions to charitable organizations based on the reading performance of those enrolled in the programs.
