The J.B. Pennington Tigers used a powerful running game to take out Carbon Hill 34-8 last Friday night in Walker County.
Pennington jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and enjoyed a 21-8 halftime lead.
The Pennington defense turned away the Bulldogs in the third quarter and the Tiger offense put the game away with a pair of secondhalf touchdowns.
Wesley Stephens was the workhorse on offense for Pennington. The sophomore fullback led the Tigers with 192 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Justin Philyaw had 59 yards on nine attempts and Dustin Sivley had 51 yards and a pair of touchdowns on seven carries.
Lee Morton was an efficient 7 of 11 passing for 114 yards. Mitchell Doyle caught three passes for 78 yards and Philyaw added two receptions for 21 yards.
Defensively, Sivley and Justin Duncan led the Tigers with nine tackles each. James Glass had two interceptions and Doyle had an interception return for a touchdown.
Pennington improved to 1-1 on the year, 1-0 in 3A Region 7. Carbon Hill fell to 1-1 overall, 0-1 in the region.
