Three from county named to All-State Team

Three high school basketball players from the county have received postseason honors, as awarded by the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA).

Cleveland’s 6’4 senior center Colton Bearden was named honorable mention All-State in class 2A. Bearden, also a standout on the football field, helped to lead the Panthers to a 24-8 record and a berth in the Northwest Regional Tournament at Wallace State. In the Panthers’ 82-67 loss to Cherokee, Bearden led the team with 30 points and seven rebounds.

Hayden freshman guard Krista Stricklin helped the Lady Wildcats to one of their finer seasons in years. The 5’7 Stricklin finished the season with 18 points in the Lady Wildcats’ 62-44 loss to Arab in the Northeast Regional Tournament at Jacksonville State. She was named honorable mention in Class 5A.

Susan Moore’s Hannah Holmes was named honorable mention in Class 3A. Holmes, who averaged 19.3 points per game as a junior, helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 16-13 record and a trip to the sub-regional round of the 3A playoffs. She has been selected to play in the North-South All Star Game during the Alabama High School Athletic Association Sports Week in Huntsville on July 16.
