SYBLE BLACKWOOD, Locust Fork, passed away at the age of 84 at the Compassus Hospice Care facility in Irondale. Syble was a charter member of Locust Fork Baptist Church. Mrs. Blackwood was predeceased by her husband of 58 years Floyd “Slick” Blackwood; parents Avis Self and Luella Holt Self; brothers Loyd Self and Dwight Self, all of Locust Fork.
Survivors include her two sons Frankey Blackwood of Locust Fork and Kerry (Cynthia) Blackwood of League City, Tex.; granddaughters Brittney (Bobby) Edwards of Locust Fork, Tori (Daniel) Veach of Friendswood, Tex., and Kayla (Cole) Johns of League City, Tex.; great-grandsons Tyler Alexander and Noah Edwards of Locust Fork, Brayden Veach of Friendswood, and Brody Russell of League City. She is also survived by many more family members and friends.
Syble liked spending time with her family, traveling, cooking, and shopping. She retired after working for more than 20 years in the office at Locust Fork School where she made lasting friendships and happy memories.
Her funeral service was held at noon on Oct. 26, 2019, at Locust Fork Baptist Church with burial at Tabernacle Cemetery with Bro. Rufus Harris officiating. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until funeral time. Pallbearers were Tyler Alexander, Brayden Veach, Donald Blackwood, Martin Blackwood, Ronnie Blackwood and Mike Tipton. In lieu of flowers her family requests donations be made to the Locust Fork Baptist Church benevolence fund. Lemley Funeral Home and Crematory directed.
