Danny Hicks, former mayor and longtime resident of Oneonta before his untimely death, swings his golf club as he did many times to promote education and benefit young people in Blount County. His is the face of the golf tournament scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 19, at Heritage Golf. In addition to its contributions toward scholarships, the Danny B. Hicks Scholarship Memorial Golf Tournament offers chances to win a car, door prizes, or cash prizes (first $500; second $400). Cost for a four-man team is $340 and includes lunch and eight mulligans. Hole sponsorships are $200. Tax deductible checks should be made to Danny B. Hicks Scholarship Inc. and mailed to P.O. Box 397, Oneonta, AL 35121. Proceeds, of course, are used for scholarships. Recipients of 2010 scholarships are Corey Evan Blackwood and Elizabeth Elliott McCain, Oneonta High School; Lydia Berkey and Kayla Jaree Duarte, Appalachian; Ashley Painter and Kaleigh Cook, Cleveland; Hannah Kirkley and Kyle Smith, Locust Fork; Michelle Ocampo and Kimberly Michelle Jones, Susan Moore; Sarah Carlile and Troy J.
