The Blount County Sheriff’s Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating a suspicious fire that occurred last week at a residence on Phillips Drive in the Straight Mountain area.
The residence burned on the afternoon of Wednesday, Dec. 28, after the owner of the property reportedly blocked the driveway and refused to let firefighters and other rescue personnel on the scene.
No one was injured and the fire remains under investigation.
Later that evening, the same man was shot during an altercation at a residence on Reneau Road. That incident, which occurred about 8: 30, resulted in the man being shot by the relative of the female resident after a warning shot was fired.
The man was transported to a Birmingham hospital and the incident is still under investigation.
