A man was shot to death by a Blount County Sheriff’s deputy Monday morning, and the investigation has been turned over to the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI), formerly known as the Alabama Bureau of Investigations (ABI), according to Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington.
The incident happened on Martin Road in Blountsville at approximately 2:30 a.m., after the deputy responded to a call.
The suspect ran and then fought the deputy before he was shot. The deputy was also injured, and he was taken to Cullman Regional Medical Center. Arrington confirmed his injuries are not life-threatening.
The Sheriff’s Department would not comment further.
“We are referring everyone to SBI because they are investigating it,” Arrington said.
SBI also would not release any additional information.
