Susan Moore wrestlers win state







The Susan Moore High School wrestling team went to Huntsville last week and brought home the Alabama 1A-4A state title. The team, under the direction of head coach Andy Holland, led for most of the tournament but fell behind St. Clair County on Saturday. However, the Bulldogs rallied for the win with 91 points, just ahead of Oak Grove at 86.5 points and St. Clair County at 86 points. Susan Moore’s Cody Self, who was the state 189-pound champion last year, blitzed through the state tournament with three straight pins to win the 195-pound class. Other wrestlers that placed high at the state tournament: Freddy Hernandez (2nd place – 170-pound), Dylan Bishop (2nd place – 145-pound), Ty Sissom (3rd place – 113-pound), and Andy Waller (3rd place – 182-pound). – Rob Rice
