All six schools in the Blount County system will play jamboree football games at Susan Moore this week.
J.B. Pennington, Appalachian, and Cleveland will play tomorrow night (Thursday) with Hayden, Locust Fork, and host Susan Moore meeting on Friday evening.
Thursday’s schedule has J.B. Pennington meeting Appalachian at 6 p.m. followed by Appalachian and Cleveland at 7 p.m. J.B. Pennington will face Cleveland at 8 o’clock in the final game of the night.
On Friday night, Susan Moore will meet Hayden at 6 p.m. with Hayden facing Locust Fork at 7 p.m. The final game of the night will have Susan Moore taking on Locust Fork at 8 p.m. New coaches in place
The spring jamboree will mark the first on-field look at Blount County’s two new high school football coaches.
Hayden’s Steven Kerby and Cleveland’s Mark O’Bryant were hired during the winter to take over programs that were a combined 5-15 a year ago.
Both Kerby, who came from Austin High School in Decatur, and O’Bryant, who came over to Cleveland from Moody, have been able to conduct spring practice while commuting back and forth from their current jobs. No jamboree for Oneonta
Oneonta was scheduled to play Fort Payne in a spring jamboree last week but head coach Gardner Gilliland said the wet weather and the rescheduling of the state track meet prompted the cancellation of the jamboree.
Oneonta, which was only able to practice six of the maximum 10 days this spring, will meet Guntersville in a fall jamboree on Aug. 20.
