Susan Moore man pleads guilty to sexual abuse of a child

Last week before Blount County Circuit Court Judge Steven King, Denny Kevin Kent, 43, of Susan Moore, entered a guilty plea to 20 counts related to the sexual abuse of a child. Last month, a grand jury indicted Kent with nine counts of sex abuse of a child under the age of 12, one count of sex abuse 1st, and 10 counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes.

Under a plea agreement with the state, Kent was sentenced to 15 years on each of the nine counts of sex abuse of a child under the age of 12 and the maximum of 10 years on each of the 10 counts of enticement of a child for immoral purposes and the maximum of 10 years on the one count of sexual abuse first.

According to District Attorney Pamela L. Casey, “This was a horrible case in which the defendant manipulated a young child. The family of the child is devastated that someone their family trusted committed these crimes against their child. This plea will save the victim from a trial and having to relive these awful acts again.”

Casey also commended Blount County Sheriff’s Investigator Sue Ashworth, the Blount County Children’s Center, and Blount County Department of Human Resources for their work on the case.
