The visiting Susan Moore Bulldogs broke open a scoreless tie after one quarter with 26 straight points over the second and third quarters to ease past Hanceville 40-22 last Friday night.

Susan Moore pounded out 311 rushing yards on the night while the Susan Moore defense limited the Hanceville rushing attack to just 47 yards on 27 attempts.

After a dead-even first quarter, the Bulldogs exploded for 18 second-quarter points as Andrew McEvoy scored on a 9-yard run and then fired an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jeffrey Threatt. The final points of the half came on a 16-yard run by Anthony Cervantes.

The lead grew to 26-0 early in the third quarter when McEvoy hooked up with Threatt on a 57-yard touchdown toss. Cervantes added the two-point conversion run.

Hanceville put together a pair of touchdown passes to cut the lead to 26-14 but Susan Moore responded with a 51-yard touchdown run by Cervantes and a 17- yard scoring run from Tanner Sisson.

Susan Moore had a good night running the ball, led by the 166 yards and two scored of Cervantes. McEvoy finished with 83 yards and a score on 15 carries.

McEvoy completed 3 of 7 passing for 74 yards and two touchdowns with Threatt catching two passes for 75 yards and two scores.

Julian Calderon was all over the field on defense for Susan Moore and finished with 12 tackles. Ross Thompson had seven tackles and the team’s only sack while Sisson had an interception.

Caleb Bailey and Gavin Harper each had a fumble recovery.

Susan Moore improved to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in 3A Region 6, and will travel to region-leading Fultondale (6-0, 3-0) this week.
