The Susan Moore Bulldogs scored 15 points in the final 1:24 of the game for a miraculous comeback and a 15-14 victory over visiting Hanceville Friday night.
Susan Moore trailed 7-0 after one quarter and 14-0 through three quarters but that just set the stage for the final two minutes.
Daniel Cornelius hit Keith Jackson on a 59-yard touchdown pass with 1:24 to play. The Bulldogs’ Enrique Pantoja nailed the extra point and the Hanceville lead was cut to 14-7.
The Bulldogs recovered the onside kick and quickly went back to work.
It appeared the Bulldog comeback was over when Cornelius’s pass from the Hanceville 35 was knocked away. However, pass interference was called and the Bulldogs got another shot from the 20.
This time, Cornelius connected with Jackson on a 20-yard scoring toss with no time left on the clock.
Trailing 14-13, Susan Moore head coach Bubba Jennings went for two and the call proved to be the right one as Cornelius scored on a keeper to give the hosts the win.
Susan Moore finished with 324 yards of offense – 174 on the ground.
Cornelius completed 12 of 24 passing for 150 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Pantoja led the Bulldogs with 64 yards on 13 carries while Cornelius had 50 yards on 11 attempts. Jay Williams had 37 yards on eight carries and Jackson had seven carries for 23 yards.
Jackson caught five passes for 99 yards and two scores.
The Bulldog defense settled down and shut down the Hanceville offense after the visitors scored on the first snap of the second quarter.
Brandon Hanvey led Susan Moore with 13 tackles while Jackson and Kobe Justice had seven stops each. Cornelius had a fumble recovery and Jessie Chapel had a sack.
