Susan Moore blasts Ashville



 

 


The Susan Moore Bulldogs piled up more than 550 yards of offense in a 51-6 blasting of visiting Ashville last Friday night.

In the first half alone, the Bulldogs got a pair of touchdown passes from Justin Hawkins to Preston Kent (one of 11 yards, the other of 29 yards), a pair of touchdown runs from Phillip McEvoy (2 yards and 1 yard), and a 42-yard field goal from Nestor Hinojosa to take a 30- 0 lead at the half.

Hawkins tossed a 9- yard scoring pass to Dillon Sloan in the third quarter to increase the lead to 37-0 and Brett Glass found Cody Sanders on an 11-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter for a 44-0 lead.

Sergio Navarro finished off the home team’s scoring with a 14-yard run early in the final quarter before Ashville got on the board late with a 5-yard run.

The Bulldog defense held Ashville to just 233 yards of total offense. Susan Moore had five sacks – two by Carlos Hinojosa and one each by Freddy Hernandez, Cody Steele, and Brady Pettit – and Cory Snell had an interception and a 62-yard return.

Hawkins was an efficient 14 of 22 passing for 188 yards with three touchdowns and one interception while Glass came on to complete 7 of 9 for 69 yards and a touchdown. Sam Pannell finished up by completing all three of his pass attempts for 18 yards.

McEvoy was the leading rusher with 81 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15 carries while Navarro added 79 yards and a touchdown on eight attempts.

Kent was the leading receiver with 93 yards and a pair of touchdowns on six catches. Joshia Witt caught six passes for 76 yards and Sanders hauled in five for 66 yards and a score.

Susan Moore (2-2 overall, 2-2 in 3A Region 6) travels to Hokes Bluff (2-2, 1-2) this week.
