Heath Lauderdale’s Bulldogs were chomping at the bit and ready to take on anything Sylvania could dish out on Friday night. Still pumped from the previous win over Pennington, Susan Moore came out the gate strong and gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 start to this season with a 28-21 win over the visiting Rams.
The Bulldogs came on very physical and play was delayed when Sylvania player Keenan Wilbanks went down from a Bulldog tackle with what has turned out to be a broken leg. Both teams were scoreless in the first quarter.
The Rams and Bulldogs both got busy in the second quarter with Sylvania scoring 14 and Susan Moore answering back with 21 points, and the third quarter saw both teams scoring once. Even with a rain delay, the Bulldogs were able to keep the lead and hold off the Sylvania offense for the fourth quarter.
Susan Moore rushed for 202 yards, with Anthony Cervantes going 68 yards in 12 carries. Johnathan Villanueva was all over the field, carrying the ball five times, racking up 81 yards and one pass reception for 54 yards. He also blocked a punt and recovered a fumble. Andrew McEvoy had 53 yards with 11 carries and scored three of the four Bulldog touchdowns. He was 3/8 passing with 70 yards, connecting with Tanner Sisson for an 11-yard touchdown pass for the fourth TD. Jesus Aguilar continued his perfect streak, hitting all four of his PATs.
Defensively, Tanner Sisson led with 11 tackles followed by Angel Maldonado with 10. Josh Webb had nine tackles, two for a loss, Nick Calderon had eight tackles, one for a loss, and Adrian Reyna had eight tackles. The Bulldogs travel to Rainsville Friday to face the Plainview Bears (0-3).
