Giving students the opportunity to showcase their talents, the Blount County Education Foundation held the 2018 Blount County Visual Art Exhibition. On Wednesday, Dec. 19, medalists gathered at Locust Fork Baptist Church for the awards presentation.

In all, Blount County students submitted 151 works of art, with entries from each school in the district. During the show, students displayed their work so guests could meet and talk with the artists.

A five-member panel judged the entries. Award categories included medalists in grade level groupings, division best of show, overall best of show, and state finalists. The state finalists move on to the State Superintendent’s Competition this month.

Hayden High School student Ty Hunter, who won overall best of show, created a masterpiece for the exhibition. The artwork is done in pointillism, a technique in which dots are made to form an image. It took her four weeks to craft such a masterwork.

Executive director Mitchie Neel said, “The Blount County Education Foundation is absolutely thrilled to host this visual arts exhibition to showcase our students’ artistic talents. The judges had a very difficult

Elementary state finalists time this year, as there were so many wonderful entries. Blount County students are very talented and this event shows it. What a wonderful array of art we showcased this year.”
