Using pencil, pen and ink, watercolors, acrylics, oils, photography, mixed media, collage, and computers, county students were recently invited to share their artistic talents with Blount County through an art competition presented by the Blount County Education Foundation. The goal of the competition was to recognize and showcase talented students throughout the county.
And, no surprise, students did not disappoint. A total of 163 entries from 132 students were submitted. Judges had a huge task on their hands as they combed over wonderful art pieces within nine divisions to choose winners.
At the end of the day, 61-division medalists, nine division best of show winners, 20 state finalists, and two overall best of show winners were chosen. With so much talent showcased this year, it was difficult for judges to choose an overall best of show piece of art. In the end, two young artists, Isabella Self (left) and Leah Feliberty (right), tied for that title. Winners were announced via Zoom and Facebook Live on Dec. 9, with the medals and trophies delivered to each school immediately after the broadcast. All participants received a certificate of recognition. BCEF executive director Mitchie Neel said the foundation is “thrilled with the number of students who chose to participate and show off their artistic abilities.”
