On Monday, Feb 8, The Blount-Oneonta Chamber of Commerce joined Stephen Hill and the rest of his crew to celebrate the grand reopening of Stephen’s Diner. Since closing March 14, 2020, when the COVID-19 lockdown first began, Hill opened his doors and welcomed patrons once again.
“We have missed seeing our regular customers. That has been the hardest thing,” Hill said.
The restaurant, which is located at 201 Sixth Street South in Oneonta, has undergone a facelift during its almost yearlong closure. Hill has been busy sprucing up the dining room with new paint and light fixtures and a sparkling new steam table has been installed.
Stephen’s is open from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Breakfast and dinner are menu only, but lunch customers can choose from either the menu or the buffet.
While you will still find all of your favorite dishes from before, Hill has expanded the available options to include a full slate of barbecue specialities. He spent years working in barbecue restaurants, and a local barbecue competition a few years ago inspired him to incorporate barbecue-style dishes at the Diner.
