STEPHEN ‘STEVE’ WILLIAM KORNEGAY, 66, a lifelong resident of Blount County, passed away on May 6, 2020, at his residence in Oneonta. Steve was born in Oneonta to Bill and Sue Kornegay on March 13, 1954. He was a member of the graduating class of 1972 from Susan Moore High School. Steve attended Alabama Technical College and received a degree in electronic engineering technology. He worked as an engineering technician for Redstone Test Center for 34 years where he traveled the world in support of the U.S. Army. Steve spent many Saturday afternoons in the fall watching college football and always cheered for the Crimson Tide. In his spare time, he also enjoyed fishing, winning Rook card games, and watching old western movies and TV shows.
Steve is survived by his wife Janet Kornegay; daughters Stephanie Kornegay and Suzanne (Luke) McLendon; brother Jimmy Kornegay; sisters Janice (Bruce) Blakely and Gwen (Buford) Maltbie; a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents W.A. “Bill” and Sue Kornegay and sister-in-law Wanda Kornegay.
A memorial service officiated by Don Garrison was held May 11, at 2 p.m., at Blount Memory Cemetery.
