The Covered Bridge Players will present their debut production, Steel Magnolias, beginning this Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Covered Bridge Theater, located on U.S. 231 in a blue metal building across from the Jet Pep station in Oneonta.
The play is set in a home beauty salon – in a garage, no less – somewhere in rural Louisiana. ( That’s a beauty parlor stool just visible through the rent in the curtain.) Though you can’t tell it here, the flyer shown is solid pink. So why an all-pink flyer? Because all the characters are women? As it happens, yes, but that’s not the main reason. Because it has something to do with breast cancer awareness? Good guess, but no cigar. There’s actually a very salient dramatic tie-in of the color pink with the play. But you won’t hear it here. For that, you’ll have to see the play.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 and 12. 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13. Same schedule for Oct. 18, 19, and 20. Tickets $10 at the door. By the way, it’s a “black box” theater, right here in Oneonta. Know what that is? Go see.
