The Blount County Board of Education hired Mike Stansberry as the new principal at Susan Moore High School during Monday’s called meeting. He replaces Chris Pullen, who retired last month.

Stansberry, 52, comes to Susan Moore after 16 years at Good Hope. A native of Good Hope, Stansberry taught at Good Hope Middle School and later served as the school’s guidance counselor.

He has been assistant principal at Good Hope High School since 2006.

Stansberry’s wife is a teacher in the Cullman City system and he has two grown daughters.

He was hired Monday and his first official day on the job was yesterday.

Assistant superintendent Rodney Green said that Stansberry was one of four interviewed for the job from a pool of 34 applicants. He praised the diligence of the 10- member committee that conducted the hiring process.

In other business, the board acted on the recommendation of Supt. Jim Carr and:

•hired Lisa Diane Gremmels, Spanish teacher, Southeastern School and Locust Fork High; and Natalie Marcrum, teacher, Hayden Elementary.

•awarded equipment bids for the Blount County Career Technical Center to Technical Training Aids Inc. Bids accepted: $17,962.20 for air conditioner control system; $12,954 for a parallel pump trainer; and $24,245 for a Learnmate Mechanical Training Bench. A copy of the bid documentation is on file in the superintendent’s office.

•awarded a $33,853.75 Child Nutrition Program bid to Mayer Electric for food service equipment (generator). A copy of the bid documentation is on file in the superintendent’s office.

•awarded a $291,174.65 Child Nutrition Program bid to Barber Dairies Inc. for milk for the period of July 21, 2014, to May 29, 2015. A copy of the bid documentation is on file in the superintendent’s office.

•awarded a $106,151.06 Child Nutrition Program bid to Osborn Brothers Inc. for paper products for the period of July 21, 2014, to May 29, 2015. A copy of the bid documentation is on file in the superintendent’s office.

•awarded a $6,988.11 Child Nutrition Program bid to Bresco for smallwares for the period of July 21, 2014, to May 29, 2015. A copy of the bid documentation is on file in the superintendent’s office.

•awarded the Child Nutrition Program bread products contract with Flowers Baking Company for the 2014-2015 school year at the board’s previously approved rates.

Finally, the board added 10 additional days to Cynthia Augustine’s contract for the summer. The additional days will be used to review and conduct compliance reviews on 25 special education student records for the Alabama Department of Education’s monitoring process. She will be paid at her 2013- 2014 daily rate.

Present at the June 30 meeting were board members Bruce McAfee, Chris Latta, Jackie Sivley, Ken Benton, and William Ferry, Carr, Green, Stansberry, board secretary Karla Latham, and several visitors.
