BREAKFAST WITH THE COACH, sponsored by Knights of Columbus and Corpus Christi Church, will feature former University of West Alabama head coach Bobby Johns and his wife Karen on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 8 a.m. at Twin Oaks. Bobby Johns was an All SEC and All American defensive back for Bear Bryant before embarking on a coaching career that has included stops at UTChattanooga, Valdosta State, South Carolina, Eastern Kentucky and Florida State. Karen Johns has served as an assistant softball coach at The University of Alabama and has been head softball coach at Florida and Virginia. She served as an assistant softball coach for Team USA in the 2008 Olympics. She now works as an on-air analyst for ESPN’s coverage of the NCAA softball tournament. ONEONTA GIRLS YOUTH BASKETBALL registration (grades 2 – 8) will begin Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Oneonta Rec Center. Players can register Monday – Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, call 625-3534.

BLOUNT COUNTY GIRLS YOUTH BASKETBALL COACHES will meet Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Oneonta Rec Center. All coaches and community representatives are asked to attend this meeting. A second meeting will be to address team count and scheduling will be announced later.

BLOUNT COUNTY SPORTS HALL OF FAME induction ceremony will be Thursday, Sept. 24, at Twin Oaks at Heritage. The class of 2009 consists of O.B. Logan Jr., Bill Hawkins, and Conrad Nix. Tickets to the event are $25 with dinner included.
