Brackets set, area tournaments start Monday

While baseball  is entering its second round of the state playoffs, softball is gearing up for its first with area tournaments starting Monday, May 3.  Appalachian (1A Area 11), Locust Fork (2A Area 11), and Hayden (5A Area 12) finished the regular season on top of their respective area and host their area tournaments. Postseason play begins Monday for Appalachian, Locust Fork, Cleveland, Southeastern, Susan Moore, and J.B. Pennington, while Hayden and Oneonta play their first game Tuesday.

1A Area 11

The Lady Eagles have a first round bye and will play either Jefferson Christian Academy or Victory Christian at 4 p.m. Monday. Championship game is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 4.

2A Area 11

Locust Fork faces the fourth-seeded Southeastern Mustangs in game one at 3:30 p.m. Monday. Cleveland (No. 2) will play West End (No. 3) at 5:30 p.m. Championship game will be 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 6.

3A Area 13

J.B. Pennington and Susan Moore travel to Holly Pond Monday. The Lady Tigers will play top-seeded Holly Pond at 3:30 p.m. and the Lady Bulldogs, the No. 2 seed, will play third-seeded Brindlee Mountain at 5:30 p.m. Championship game is set for 5 p.m. Thursday, May 6.

4A Area 10

The Lady Redskins are seeded third and play the No. 2-seeded Ashville Bulldogs at Etowah on Tuesday, May 4. Game time is 3 p.m. Championship game will be 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 6.

5A Area 12

Hayden opens play against fourth-seeded Center Point at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, with the championship game set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 6.

Area tournaments are double elimination with the top two teams from each area advancing to regionals, which are May 12 to May 15. Check back for post game updates each afternoon.
