The multipurpose soccer and football complex across from the Oneonta Aquatics Center are almost complete according to Oneonta Mayor Richard Phillips. In late summer of 2022, groundwork began, and despite some weather delays, the fields are in the final stages of being completed. Phillips said the parking lot should be paved by the end of this week.
Once the parking lot is completed, the contractor will do a final walk-through to ensure everything meets expectations. Once he signs off, let the competitions begin. Although there will be an official grand opening day and ribbon cutting complete with hot dogs and drinks tentatively scheduled for mid-April, soccer players will begin utilizing the fields immediately.
Phillips is proud of the work that has gone into getting this multipurpose soccer and football field ready for the public to use. He said, “Having a soccer plus football complex is something the community has wanted for a long time. We are thrilled to now have such an attractive field that is welcoming to visitors and meeting a need locally.”
