Smoke Rise honors airman Eddie Harvey

On a cold, windy morning last week, 15 members of the Smoke Rise Homeowners Association met at the entrance to their subdivision to dedicate a new flag and flagpole in honor of Senior Airman Edgar L. Harvey III (Eddie). He is the grandson of Smoke Rise residents Mr. and Mrs. Edgar L. Harvey Sr. and nephew of residents Mr. and Mrs. Mark Harvey. He is a pararescueman, referred to as PJs, Air Force Special Forces personnel with heavy training in diving, parachuting, combat survival, underwater egress, and emergency medical skills. Airman Harvey returned from Afghanistan in early January and will return with his unit this spring. Shown in uniform in the photo are technical sergeant Pam Krier and staff sergeant Stephen Stallings of the 331st Recruiting Squad who traveled from Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery to conduct the flag raising. Also shown is homeowners association president Dick Brown. Members of the association played a recorded version of the national anthem during the ceremony. – Ron Gholson
