Sharon Dianne Teal

SHARON DIANNE TEAL went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Nov. 21, 2021, at the age of 53. She was born in Oneonta Jan. 5, 1968, to Kenneth and Charlene (McWhorter) Teal. Sharon attended Cleveland High School through the 11th grade and completed her senior year at Oneonta High School, graduating in 1986. She attended UAB and studied early childhood education.

Sharon married Timothy Askew in 1988 and moved to Ahoskie, N.C. She and Tim welcomed three wonderful sons into their family, Lewis, TJ, and Kendall. While living in Ahoskie, Sharon worked as a reading specialist at Ridgecroft School. In 2001, the family moved to Mobile. She continued to work with children, teaching preschool at St. Mark School, St. Luke’s Episcopal School, Christ UMC Preschool, and World of Friends Preschool.

In 2016, Sharon returned to Blount County. She earned her certification as a CNA. She worked at TLC Nursing Center before switching to private nursing care. For the last two years, Sharon lovingly provided home health care for her mother after she suffered a debilitating fall.

Sharon was an avid gardener and loved flowers. She was blessed with the gift of a beautiful voice and loved singing in church. Sharon loved animals, most especially her sweet King Charles Cavalier appropriately named “Bama.” She loved spending time at the beach and called it her happy place. Sharon was a wonderful cook, blessing friends and family alike with gifts of food. She had a kind and gentle soul, often extending generosity to the needy even when it placed a hardship on herself. Sharon loved people, evidenced by her gift of providing care to children and the elderly alike. This wonderful mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Sharon was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Marion and Effie Teal, maternal grandparents Carl and Audrey McWhorter, her great-aunt Elzie Robertson, and her special adoptive aunt Evelyn Ellis.

Sharon is survived by many adoring members of her family; first and foremost her three sons, Lewis Askew (Wendy), TJ Askew, and Kendall Askew; her parents Kenneth and Charlene (McWhorter) Teal; her sister Carlene (Frank) Williamson; grandchildren Raycen, Briley, Bentley, and Huntley; nieces Rachel and Laura Williamson; nephews John and Paul Williamson; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Services were Friday, Nov. 26, at Rosa United Methodist Church, with visitation from 11 a.m. until service time at noon. Interment followed at Mt. Joy Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Sharon’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
