SAM MILTON HOLMES, 88, Snead, died Dec. 25, 2017, at Grandview Hospital, Birmingham. He was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church. He served with the U.S. Army, was a volunteer firefighter, and member of the rescue squad. He was also a member of the Snead Town Council and the Lion’s Club. He was predeceased by wife Carol Grimes Holmes, parents Oll and Effie Jimmerson Holmes, three brothers, and five sisters.
Surviving are daughters Jan (Randal) Gilliland, Wyn- nville, Lori (Robert) Dempsey, Susan Moore, Kim (Jesse) Tidwell, Locust Fork; grandson Jake Goble, Vail, Colo.; sister Ruth Wallace, Tarrant.
Bric Latham officiated the 2 p.m. service held Dec. 29 at Bethel Baptist Church with burial at the adjacent cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Billy Max Wright, Larry Wright, Jerry Webb, Steven Waid, Phillip Holmes, Mike Holmes, and Andy McBrayer. Honorary pallbearers were Hartley Prince, Zachariah Waid, Terry Wallace, and George Larkin. The family suggests donations in his memory to the Blount County Animal Adoption Center, 5241 County Highway 1, Cleveland, AL 35049. Snead Funeral Home directed.
