Mark this event on your calendar: Tuesday, July 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Eris Horton Auditorium at Oneonta High School. A political forum featuring runoff candidates in two significant Blount County races is scheduled for that evening. Brett King and Shay Shelnutt, opponents in the District 17 state senate runoff election on July 15, will face off to answer questions that night. Also invited to participate are Paul DeMarco and Gary Palmer, runoff opponents in the District 6 U. S. House of Representative race. Both are expected to attend and answer questions from the audience. The event is hosted by the Blount County-Oneonta Chamber of Commerce.“We agreed to do this to encourage people to turn out for the runoff election on July 15,” said Aimee Wilson, Chamber of Commerce director.“This is an important election for citizens of Blount County, and we want to create interest in the candidates and in what’s at stake for the county so people will go to the polls and vote,” she said.
