Rob’s rambling

Just a few things that I need to get out of my head…not necessarily meant to be entertaining…then again, you never know.

Good luck to the Oneonta City Board of Education as they begin the search for a new superintendent. Losing Dr. Michael Douglas was probably going to happen eventually, but it’s quite a blow to have to do another superintendent search after just three years. There is always a good candidate out there but they aren’t always the easiest to find…

Some random area restaurants I remember – Mason’s Cafe, Little Joe’s, Dogwood Inn and Bearden’s (Oneonta), Nancy’s (Snead), Two Brothers (Nectar, maybe Twin Brothers??)…

Apparently the older I get, the more emotional I get. I almost (ALMOST) got teary-eyed the other night watching a commercial where an ostrich taught itself to fly – no idea why and I’m not sure what the commercial was for but don’t judge me…

We have the makings of a great entertainment area in downtown Oneonta. Congratulations to Swamp Tails and Pounder’s…and let’s not forget the OG (it’s a thing, look it up) Chuck at Miller’s Soda Shoppe. Also, the city leaders are to be commended and I’m all for continuing to grow the concept. Now, let’s get some entertainment in the burgeoning entertainment district. A movie theater is probably not in the cards (yet) but an arcade or game room or trivia or karaoke…something…hmmm, there’s almost an idea here…

County commissioners have an almost thankless job – as a matter of fact, most public servants and elected officials do. However, I would like to thank them for the job they did during our recent flooding. Job well done once again, guys. Allen Armstrong, Mike Painter, Dean Calvert and Nick Washburn – you get quite a bit more than your money’s worth for the job they do…

Favorite TV show? Glad you asked. The Walking Dead, of course, and I also like Fear the Walking Dead. I’m not all about zombies, though. I’ve discovered the joys of Game of Thrones and there’s something addictive about Live PD (never wanted to live in South Carolina but this show pretty much sealed the deal for me, anyway). I also got hooked on Timeless (canceled by NBC but has since been brought back – in 2018). Modern Family and The Goldbergs are also must-see TV for me. Then there’s House Hunters, although I cannot for the life of me figure out why I like the show. Same thing with Pool Kings…

Of course, it’s not football season and that’s when my favorites tend to change a bit.

Finally, just last week my son told my wife and I that when we get to heaven we need to stay in the same place so he could find us when he got there. Remember that part about me being emotional?
