67, Cullman, died Feb. 14, 2012, at UAB Palliative Care. Born in Jefferson County, he was son of Odis and Lula Mae Bennett Whittington. Mr. Whittington was a heavy equipment operator for Southern Ready Mix and loved to fish. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother Jerry Whittington and sisters Eloise Long and Mary Jean Freeman.

Surviving are wife Bernice Whittington, Walter; son Jerry Franklin (Amanda) Whittington, Guntersville; daughters Shelby (Eugene) Vaughn, Altoona, and Debria ( Johnny) Miller, Hanceville; grandchildren Joseph Minor, Blountsville, Christina Vaughn, Dakota Vaughn, Michael Vaughn, and Hunter Vaughn, all of Altoona, Crystal (Deeder) McElwy, Cordova, Jessica Miller, Nicole Miller, Blake Miller, Nicholas Miller, and Katelyn Miller, all of Hanceville, Maddie Anna Whittington, Guntersville; great-grandson Michael McElwy, Cordova; brothers Fred (Ann) Whittington, Texas, and Tommy (Lynn) Whittington, California; sisters Sonny Tyler, Florida, and Libby Holdley, Colorado; and sister-in-law Becky Whittington, Foley.

C.J. Cobb and Gary Stanfield officated the service held Feb. 18, at 1 p.m., at Lemley Funeral Home Chapel.
